Superstar Basketballer LeBron James tweets worth about $140K, digital advertisers say

A sponsored tweet from LeBron James, with a reach of 23.2 million followers, seems like a surefire way to get your product or service on the map—but you better be prepared to cough up $140,000.
Yep. According to a story by ESPN's Darren Rovell, a sponsored tweet from the Cleveland Cavaliers star is valued at nearly $1,000 per character.
The exact value of $139,474 was determined by Opendorse, a company that helps marketers configure digital and social media endorsement campaigns with athletes. It's the highest value of any U.S. athlete as estimated by the company, leading second- and third-ranked Kevin Durant ($66,553) and Kobe Bryant ($42,389) by a long shot.
"We're basically saying that the value of one LeBron tweet is worth $140,000," Opendorse CEO Blake Lawrence told Rovell. "And with that, you will reach 23 million people. It would cost you five times more to reach that many people with a TV ad."
Despite the steep estimations, however, Lawrence told Rovell that most deals are $1,000 to $2,500 per tweet and that the highest-priced tweet Opendorse has sold to this point garnered $20,000. Lawrence also revealed that James recently turned down a six-figure offer for a sponsored tweet.
