Running errands are a drag, especially when they aren't even your errands, but one Wisconsin man's trip to the convenience store for his wife ended up changing their lives.

John Rumpel, a former high school teacher, bought a lottery ticket while he was out getting a gallon of milk at the request of his wife.
Not only did that ticket turn out to be a winner, but Rumpel became the largest Megabucks jackpot winner in the games history, to the tune of $22.2 million.

"It wasn't until after the drawing that I flipped on the news and saw that the winning ticket was sold in Milwaukee and I looked up and saw the convenience store on there and I went, 'Oh man, that might be me.'"
And it was.

Rumpel took the cash option, so after taxes, he'll take home $15.7 million.

A 'racist' 14-year-old schoolboy who stabbed his teacher in the stomach because he didn't like being disciplined by a black man has been jailed for 11 years.
The teenager, of Pakistani origin, admitted a charge of causing grievous bodily harm against Vincent Uzomah at Dixons Kings Academy in Bradford.

The boy was described by others as "disruptive and a bully" and had taken a dislike to Mr Uzomah in the seven weeks he had worked at the school.
Prosecutor said the boy told a friend the previous day that he was planning to stab a teacher and took a knife with a "substantial blade" into school on June 11, discussing his plans with other pupils.

He said:

"He approached Mr Uzomah and reached into his pocket but at that point he took out the knife and stabbed Mr Uzomah in the stomach.Mr Uzomah thought he was going to die."]The teen later boasted of what he had done on Facebook writing: "the m*****f****r getin funny so I stick the blade straight in his tummy."
In a victim impact statement, Mr Uzomah said he found it "hard to understand" why others had 'liked' this Facebook status.

A common tradition in Swaziland (Swazi) permits the King, Mswati, to choose a new bride every year.
According to reports by Talk Africa, it has been a long time tradition in Swaziland and isn’t the first time this controversial issue is making it into the news.
It will be recalled that in 2012, Dailymail reported that topless virgins were paraded in front of the Swazi King, to celebrate chastity and unity.
As part of Swazi custom and norms, that time of the year has come, when the King chooses his bride and again, he has reportedly tested girls’ virginity before choosing a wife for himself.

White officer kills black cop after mistaking him for criminal

Police respond to scene in East Harlem on Thursday night where off-duty cop Omar Edwards was fatally shot by NYPD while in pursuit of carjack thief.

An off-duty rookie cop chasing a suspected car thief in East Harlem with his gun drawn was shot and killed Thursday night when an officer mistook him for a criminal.
"Police! Stop! Drop it!" cops from the 25th Precinct shouted at Omar Edwards, 25.
As he started to turn toward him - the gun still in his hand - an officer opened fire, sources said.
The officer involved in the shooting is white, Edwards is black and had no visible NYPD identification on him, sources said. It was unclear if Edwards identified himself.
"This is always a black cop's fear, that he'd be mistaken for a [suspect]," a source said.

Meet the Thieves in This Multi-Million Dollar Cross-Country Jewel Heist Ring

It was a crime spree that stretched over eight states and more than 24 jewelry stores across the country. With a high level of sophistication and planning, a team of thieves were able to steal millions of dollars' worth in diamond jewelry over an 18-month period, starting in December 2009 until May 2011.

But thanks to social media and the crew's unquenchable thirst for cold, hard cash, police were able to track down and nab the thieves.
“What got 'em was greed. If they would have just stuck to the plan but not showed the money off publicly, we might still be trying to figure out who they are right now,” Portland Police Det. Eric McDaniel said.
3 months after the gang of 4 men stole a pair of diamonds worth $150,000 from the David Marguilis’ jewelry store in Portland, Oregon, on Dec. 15, 2010, police got their first big break when a tip helped identify the man who ran out of the store with the diamonds as Victor Lupis.
During an interrogation, Lupis confessed to the crime and told police that there was an entire cast of characters involved in the theft and began naming the other thieves, police said.

The thieves all played different roles and had catchy nicknames such as the “risk reducer,” the “runner,” the “hero stopper” and the “getaway driver,” Lupis told police.
According to Lupis, Michael Young, who called himself the risk reducer, was the ringleader, the mastermind behind their whole operation.
A federal judge sentenced Remor to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the jewelry thefts
During the jewelry thefts, police said Young sat outside orchestrating the entire event while communicating through a disposable phone.
“He had the guys convinced that he pre-planned everything to a point where the risks were reduced and there, the likelihood of them getting caught was zero,” McDaniel said.
When Lupis told Young he left his fingerprints on the front door of the Portland jewelry store, Young returned to the store during all the confusion and wiped them off, Lupis told investigators.
According to detectives, Young, an ex-convict, implied that he was part of a crime family and threatened retaliation to those who dared to cross him. He was also a master manipulator, persuading new recruits with the promise of money, Lupis told police.

Before the thefts, Young also went to stores pretending to be looking to purchase an item while actually checking out the store’s security measures.
“They usually go after a female, and an older female if they can because they just believe that they’re just the most vulnerable person to steal from,” McDaniel said. “Once they kind of built a relationship with an employee at the jewelry store, they would start looking for the higher-end diamonds.”
Without Lupis, Jack Cannon often played the role of the runner, McDaniel said.
Police were unable to find anyone who knew and liked Cannon because “he’s a manipulator and only cares about himself," McDaniel said.
“Matter of fact, we learned on social media that there’s a website dedicated to Jack Cannon about all the girls that hate him,” McDaniel said.
Cannon would dress the part of a high-end jewelry customer and was able to make people trust him.
“He was dressed up in a suit and tie. He drew attention to himself in that the one that was able to identify him thought he was attractive,” Tampa Police Department Det. Melinda Rewis, who was the lead investigator of the jewel ring’s robbery at King Jewelers in Tampa, Florida, told “20/20.”
Rewis said Cannon also altered his look by dyeing his hair blond.
Though police were able to identify Cannon by a fingerprint he left at the Tampa jewelry store, Cannon, who was charged in the robbery, didn’t show up for future court appearances and continued his robbery pattern across the country, Rewis said.

“What’s memorable about Jack Cannon is his demeanor and the way he talks to people, that’s what people most remember about him,” Las Vegas Det. Aaron Lee, who investigated Cannon’s involvement in a robbery at the Jewelers of Las Vegas store, told “20/20.” “This was a classic con man. He did everything right to make people feel comfortable when he went in the store.”
The group’s social media photos of their travel helped detectives track their movements, eventually helping lead to their arrests.
“As the case progressed and we learned more about where the suspects had committed diamond thefts, we were able to look on the social media sites and see some correlating photos from where the crimes had occurred,” Hughes said.

At the sentencing hearing this past February, a federal judge called Young a crafty, intelligent man who moved around his less savvy co-defendants like chess pieces. Young was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison.
Cannon is now serving a 30-year sentence after being indicted on charges of robbery with a weapon and conspiracy.
The second-in-command to Young’s risk reducer role was the "hero stopper" Ernest Remor, Lupis told police.
“The person that stops the hero is gonna have some spray on him or something to try to incapacitate the good citizen trying to stop the thief,” McDaniel said.
Remor and Young, both in their 30's, had tried and failed to steal diamonds before and spent some time in prison for their efforts.
After each theft, Remor flew to Jewelers' Row in Philadelphia with the stolen diamonds that they could sell for cash at the Three Gold Brothers store.

“They found a shop in Philadelphia that would play by their rules, so to speak, and taking their merchandise,” McDaniel said.
A federal judge sentenced Remor to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the jewelry thefts.
According to Lupis, the team’s getaway driver was Trey Adams.
“He can never bring himself to do the actual theft of the diamonds, but his big role was to steal cars, usually minivans, and be the getaway driver,” McDaniel said.
Adams drove a white Dodge minivan he stolen when the thieves robbed the Portland jewelry store, Lupis told police.
“You steal a car, and it was never registered to you. There’s nothing on paper showing you put money down for it, and that way you can just leave it,” McDaniel said. “So there was a risk there, but I think it was a smart one.”

Chinese woman gets electrocuted while entering PIN code at an ATM

A Chinese woman was in for a real shock last weekend when she tried to get money out of an ATM.
The unsuspecting 23-year-old, known as Xiao Liu, had been entering her PIN code into a cash machine in Xi'an, north west China, when a sudden surge of electricity left her needing hospital treatment.

The electric shock sent 200 volts around the woman's body. Humans can only handle 36 volts safely.
The electricity passed from Liu's hand to her body, leaving her right arm numb and sore.
Liu was forced to the floor by the impact of the shock at the China Everbright Bank.
She soon realised that she was bleeding and that the fingernails on her right thumb and ring finger were broken.
Her card had also been swallowed by the machine.

After recovering for a few minutes, the frightened woman then made her way to a local hospital for treatment.
A doctor wrapped up the injuries and has reassured Liu that the fingernails would grow back on their own.
However, the incident, which happened on Sunday evening, had a lasting impact on Liu whose work requires her to make phone calls and record clients' information.

Her injured right arm stopped her from typing properly and Liu was forced to take sick leave.
Mr Liu, an official from the China Everbright Bank apologised for the accident and said that the bank would compensate the woman by paying for her medical treatment.
He added that the ATM machine had been installed for more than a year and used electricity from the eye wear store where it was placed.

The bank's other two machines, which are based outside the eye wear shop, were also tested.
However, it was found that they did not transmit electricity.
The cause of the malfunction in currently unknown and the cash point is undergoing investigation.
The ATM has since been closed.

A Russian laboratory has invented a way to remove the black skin layer of black people

This is unbelievable and yet real. According to a publication of the Moscow Faculty of Sciences , researchers have developed a chemical process to « whiten » quickly a person.
With a mixture that includes oxytane and benzodiazepine. It would suffice to stay for 6 hours in a bath consisting of 50grams per liter of water.
Then the skin peels off naturally. This is in fact the upper skin layer responsible for the color that can be removed.
pele
The laboratory at the origin of the discovery has already announced 254 people have been treated by this method. The Russian government may soon allow the reimbursement of this treatment.
According to Russian authorities, is an high value for thousands of immigrants who may feel more integrated in Russia once their color matches the one of the premises.
A strong point of view decried by the associations of human rights.
Vladimir Putin’s country use all the means at its disposal, even science, to guide his company towards a vision considered ideal.

Police arrests 18 year old boy who built gun-firing drone.

The US teen who sparked an Internet sensation by building a small drone capable of firing a handgun, has been arrested and released on a $20,000 bond, police said Thursday. Austin Haughwout, an 18-year-old mechanical engineering student from Clinton, Connecticut, was charged with assault and interfering with a police officer, officials said.
The charges have nothing to do with the drone, but stem from an incident last Sunday and a physical altercation with officers, the Clinton police department said. He was arrested on Wednesday evening after being asked to turn himself in on an outstanding warrant. Police said he refused to submit to arrest and that he hit and kicked at two officers “repeatedly”.
As a result he was charged with two counts of assault and a single count of interfering with an officer. The arrest warrant also charged Haughwout with interfering with an officer and failure to obey an officer’s signal. He appeared in court on Thursday and posted a $20,000 bond. Haughwout on July 10 posted a video called “Flying Gun” that shows a homemade multi-rotor drone hovering off the ground and firing a semiautomatic handgun in the Connecticut countryside.
It has been watched around 2.8 million times and on Tuesday the Federal Aviation Administration said it was investigating. The FAA is poised to miss a September deadline for a final set of rules to govern civilian drones in crowded US skies — prompting industry fears that the United States is falling behind other countries in developing high-value UAV technology.

On Tuesday, she said on the show that she can no longer say "innocent until proven guilty."
