PDP Leaders threaten to INEC over withheld election result

Ballot Box PDP convention

Aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party leaders  from Michika/Madagali Federal constituency in Adamawa state have threatened to invade the  Adamawa state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission if it fails to announce the result of the federal constituency within 48 hours.

The PDP leaders, led by  Francis Zaman, who was the PDP collating agent of Pallam/ Kojoti ward, vowed to remain at the INEC office till the results are announced.
“If nothing is done about the results in the next two days, the REC should prepare to host us in his office until our demands are met,” the PDP leader said, speaking on behalf of other leaders of the party.

The group, speaking to journalists in Yola, said it was compelled to issue the threat because almost one week after the election held, the results were yet to be released despite the fact that the election was peaceful and hitch free.

They argued that there is no justification for INEC to refuse to announce the overall result as the results of 25 of the 26 wards in the constituency have been duly collated and announced with the exception of Pallam/Kojiti ward.
The PDP leaders alleged that the result for Pallam/Kojiti ward was snatched by the APC candidate, Umaru Duhu, and others.

They said there is no way the result of Pallam/Kojiti ward would change the overall result considering the difference in votes between the leading candidate, Adamu Kamale and Umar Duhu whose scores in the collated results are 9,357 and 6,777 votes respectively.

The protesters said the Nigerian Police had also provided duplicate copies of the missing result of the said ward and that they therefore could not see any reason for the refusal of INEC to announce the result.

But in a swift reactions, the APC candidate, Umar Duhu, dismissed the allegations that he engaged in any shady practice saying the allegations were false, baseless and could not stand the test of scrutiny.

He noted  that the group was sponsored by his opponent, Adamu Kamale, in other to deceive Adamawa  people. Mr. Duhu said he has a reputation of being a peace maker and could not descend so low to snatch a ballot box.

“I want to put it on record that all my life, I have been a peaceful person. I am not a thug and cannot be one.
“I was never at any ward collation centre on the day of the election. Therefore, I take exception to the exaggeration that I masterminded the snatching of the election materials for Pallam Kwajiti Ward,” he said

Mr. Duhu said unlike his opponents who are only complaining about the result of one ward, his complaint is beyond one ward.

“We are in position of several other evidence capable of rendering the whole exercise a nullity.

“The evidence are so monumental that when the whole world sees, they will be convinced that, Hon. Adamu Kamale did not merit even half of the votes he claimed to have scored.

“I am happy INEC is on top of the whole issues surrounding the so-called March 28 Presidential and National Assembly Elections,” he said.
