When asked by a US celebrity news magazine TMZ, about his nationality, Al Farouq clearly stated that he isn't a Nigerian and has never stepped foot inside the country. He said he did play for Nigeria cause his father is Nigerian and as such he has the right to play for Nigeria due to dual citizenship.
" I am originally from Atlanta Georgia but my dad is Nigerian", Aminu said. The former LA Clippers and now New Hornets forward played in all Nigeria's five games in the London 2012 Olympic, including the spanking Nigeria received from the US team.
