Over recent weeks,
Mikel has said he would like to see Roberto Di Matteo land the job on a
permanent basis. According to Mikel, Villas-Boas failed to get the best out of
the players when he was manager because he could not get his message across.
Mikel added: "The communication was not right. Andre
Villas-Boas is a great manager and he has done well for himself and is only
young but when you are young, coming into a business like this, you are going
to make mistakes.
"At the start of this season, I was one of the key
players in the team but there were a few rotations early on and it was
difficult. You think you have played well in a game and the manager then leaves
you out and you don't know the reason why. Things like this went on through everyone's
head and not just mine.
"Nobody knew what was happening and when you have
something like that on your mind, you don't know what to do. You come into
training and think, should I train well because I don't know if I'm going to be
playing at the weekend?"
Like most first team regulars, Mikel sat out Chelsea's 2-1
victory over Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge yesterday. Mikel picked up as
back injury after Chelsea's FA Cup win on May 5 and is being rested in the hope
that he will be fit for the Champions League final against Bayern Munich on May
19.
