Bayelsa state Governor Siriake Dickson tightens up on secret cults in his state

YENAGOA- BAYELSA State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has warned cultists in the state to renounce membership or be prepared to spend 10 years behind bars.
Governor Dickson gave the warning in Yenagoa, while assenting to seven bills presented to him by the State House of Assembly.

The governor noted that with the signing of the Secret Cults (Prohibition) Law 2012, all cult groups in the state had been proscribed.
He warned that anybody convicted would serve 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine, noting that any landlord who allowed his building to be used for meetings by cultists, would, on conviction, forfeit such building to the state.
Governor Dickson, however, said any cultist who was prepared to renounce his membership of cult groups would be declared free of any complicity and given protection by the state.
Speaking on some of the other Bills, Governor Dickson said the “Bayelsa State Income and Expenditure Transparency Bill 2012”, along with the “Bayelsa State Fiscal Responsibility (Amendment) Bill 2012” were intended to entrench transparency and accountability in the business of governance and also place at the doorstep of the people, the right to inquire about any aspect of the government of the day.
