Former Governor of Boronu state, Ali Modu Sheriff acquires most expensive jet for N11.5b

According to a report by Encomium magazine, former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sherriff has toppled Bishop David Oyedepo as the owner of the largest fleet of private jets in Nigeria with the acquisition of a new jet valued at N11.5 billion.

Encomium reports

Former Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has topped the chart of top 10 private jet owners in Nigeria with the acquisition of a brand new Gulfstream G650 model worth about $72 million (N11.5 billion). Encomium Weekly’s check revealed that it’s the most expensive private jet among wealthy Nigerians who are privileged to have these expensive toys. The latest acquisition brings to four planes in his fleet.
We gathered that the aircraft, which was registered in Dubai with special specifications, is the fourth in his fleet, as the former governor already has three old Dornier aircraft which he acquired from Aero Contractors at an estimated $3 million (N480 million).
According to our source, a Dornier aircraft is used for charter services as Sheriff recently obtained an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for his airline, Skybird. But a source said the Gulfstream was acquired for Sheriff’s personal use.

Two sons of Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido arrested by EFCC over alleged N10b fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two sons of Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, over an alleged N10billion fraud.

Aminu and Mustapha  Lamido were arrested on Thursday in Kano and flown to Abuja on Friday morning, and are currently being interrogated at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja by a crack team of detectives.
The arrest of the governor’s sons, insiders say, is in furtherance of the investigation that commenced in December 2012 when Aminu Sule Lamido was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport en route Cairo, Egypt for failure to declare the $50,000 he had on him. Although Aminu has since been prosecuted and convicted by a Federal High Court in Kano, investigation as to how he came by the money has led investigations to uncover a web of money laundering in which billions of naira from Jigawa state govt accounts are funnelled into the accounts of companies run by the Jigawa state governor and his 2sons.

Over N10billion is said to have been transferred from Jigawa state government accounts into the accounts in which Sule Lamido and his two sons have interest from 2007 till date.
The Commission is said to have traced these transfers to 10 companies where Lamido and sons are directors and signatories to the account.

The companies include Bamaina Alluminium Limited, Bamaina Holdings Limited, Bamaina Company Nigeria Limited, Rawda Integrated Services Limited, Speeds International Limited and Saby Integrated Nigeria Limited.

The account of these companies received huge cash inflow between 2007 and 2013, a period that coincide with the tenure of Sule Lamido as governor of Jigawa state. For instance in Bamaina Aluminium where Sule Lamido and his two sons are directors, investigations revealed that the company’s account controlled by Mustapha as signatory received total credit of N1.52billion between January 2010 and August 2013. It recorded a total debit of the same amount, with Mustapha and other companies in which Lamido and his sons are directors, being the beneficiaries.

In the same vein, Bamaina Holdings Limited’s account with the governor as sole signatory received a total of N1.19billion between February 2007 and July 2013.
About N1billion was paid from this account into accounts of companies controlled by the governor and his sons.

Massive lodgements were also discovered in the account of Bamaina Company Nigeria limited controlled by Mustapha as sole signatory from Bamaina Alluminium. Between January 2010 and July 2013, the account received over N500million.

From the account of Rawda Integrated Services Limited controlled by Mustapha, there have also been massive movement of funds to another company run by Sule Lamido, Speeds International Limited. Speeds’ account recorded a turnover ofN2.2billion between January 2007 and February 2010.

In the account of Rawda with a new generation bank investigators discovered the movement of N2.6billion to an unknown signatory.

That account recorded over one hundred withdrawals running to over N600milion in cash between November 2007 and April 2008.

Saby Integrated Services Nigeria Limited, another company owned by Lamido received over N730million from several Jigawa State government agencies between June 2010 and August 2010

Dublin based Nigerian business man, Taiwo Jamani, dies after an attack with a baseball bat

A Nigerian business man based in Dublin, Taiwo Jamani, who was injured in an assault last month on Main Street in Swords Co, Dublin died in Beaumont Hospital on Thursday.

The 45-year-old was battered across the head with a baseball bat in broad daylight on October 10 while shoppers and passers-by looked on in horror. Reports said Jamani and his business partner, identified as Jooda Akanbi, were in a fight, which resulted in the victim being left unconscious.

Eye-witnesses described the scenes as “mayhem” and said the injured man suffered a violent blow to the back of the head.

“Then the man with the bat held it high over his head and brought it down hard on the other man’s head and he just slumped to the ground,” said witness Alan Murphy.
Akanbi, was said to have paced around the scene until security operatives arrived and arrested him. An officer from the technical bureau photographed the scene, including a baseball glove found on the rear seat of the blue 00 Cork registered BMW car.
The victim was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where doctors battled to save him until his death on November 14.

Senate suspends probe on Stella Oduah's car scandal indefinitely

The Senate, on Thursday, suspended indefinitely its decision to question the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, at its general session, after repeatedly deferring the minister’s appearance.
Ms. Oduah will now appear before the Senate Committee on Aviation on an unnamed date, a new resolution approved by the lawmakers on Thursday said. The hearing is expected to be reported back to the senate plenary.
“The Senate accordingly resolves to rescind its earlier resolution that the minister of aviation and chief executives of the aviation parastatals to brief the senate plenary,” the motion read.
It also said the minister will “brief the Senate Committee on Aviation on the state of aviation sector and highlights number of aviation incidents
Senate President David Mark did not give reasons for the decision.
The Senate deputy minority whip, Solomon Ganiyu, said the decision was reached at a closed-door session.
“Indeed, at the executive session last week, senators were unanimous that the motion should be rescinded. Instead, the minister should rather appear before the Senate Committee on Aviation,” Mr Solomon (Lagos/APC) said. He seconded a motion to repeal the first order.

Ms. Oduah is currently facing multiple investigations for allegedly ordering the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to purchase two armoured cars for her at the cost of N255 million. The contract was not budgeted for and did not follow due process.
The minister has denied doing any wrong, and insists she followed the relevant laws. An investigation by the House of Representatives proved those claims false. The House investigation, which took more than a week, will be discussed by lawmakers next week.
Another committee named by President Goodluck Jonathan on the matter has failed to submit its report after the assigned two weeks.
The Senate probe was to focus on the problems of the aviation sector generally, particularly air crashes and issues of regulation by the ministry of aviation.
The minister has been accused of denying additional landing rights to some international airlines to commence cargo and passenger flights to Kano and Abuja apart from Lagos where they now operate.
The airlines are: Emirates (Dubai, Kano, Abuja); Turkish (Instanbul, Kano, Abuja); Etihad (Dubai, Kano, Abuja); Qatar (Doha, Kano, Abuja) and Asky Airlines (Lome, Niger, Kano).
Emirates and Turkish airlines have, however, received conditional approvals to fly the Kano-Abuja routes. The aviation ministry attached strict conditions to the effect that they must pay “Royalty Per Passenger”.
The minister was however also expected to address questions on the armoured cars scandal.

After repeated rescheduling, her appearance last Thursday was moved after Mr Mark said he wanted to personally preside over the hearing. The senate president was to lead the Nigerian delegation to United Arab Emirate to support the Golden Eaglets who played Mexico in the finals of the U-17 FIFA championship. He did not go after all.
“I think we should oblige the senate president that opportunity to preside over the session because he was passionate about it and he would have been around today but for the last minute national assignment given to him,” deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, said that day.
But on a rescheduled date Thursday, the Senate tabled a motion to withdraw its previous decision on the matter. It mandated the minister to brief the aviation committee.
Speaking to journalists after the plenary, chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Hope Uzodinma (Imo/PDP), denied concerns that the Senate may have acted under “pressure” from the Presidency to give the embattled minister a soft landing.

“I don’t know where you heard what you heard but what I had just said is the decision is in order,” he said. “I think it (rescinded summons) is proper and it is in order and in accordance with the Senate rules.”
Mr Uzodinma, however, could not provide a definite date Mrs Oduah is to appear before the Senate aviation committee.
“The time table will be worked out as soon we meet at the committee level,” he said

Preachers wife, Megan Good steps out in a see through dress

I don't really know how most people view Christianity and dressing, but for me, I don't think it is appropriate for a preachers wife to dress up like this. Being a TV personality still doesn't warrant it, there are more descent ways to dress as an actress rather than show some skin.

Pastor commits suicide cause he felt God was no longer hearing him

Rev. Teddy Parker, a Macon, Georgia pastor killed himself a few days after telling his congregation at his church that God was not hearing him and no longer felt a connection to God.

"I try to pray but I don’t feel like God is hearing me,” Parker said to his congregation “I try to serve but I don’t feel like God is using me. And there are times in your life when God purposely withdraws from you, he doesn’t withdraw for the sake of leaving you but he withdraws so you can grow and mature.”
Rev. Parker, a father of two, shot himself in the head with his own gun following Sunday service at Bible Mount Zion Baptist Church while his family and congregation were still at his church waiting for him for the next service..

"When he didn’t show up they went looking for him,” a church member, Russell Rowland, told the Post. “I’m very surprised because he didn’t preach that. He preached totally against it. It’s something that the congregation don’t really understand.”.

Former ASSU boss Festus Iyayi, dies in car crash

A former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Festus Iyayi, is dead, union officials said.
Witnesses said Mr. Iyayi, 66, died along the the Lokoja-Abuja highway in an accident involving the the convoy of Kogi state Governor, Idris Wada.
The late university teacher was among ASUU leaders who met with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja last week to deliberate on how to end the four-month strike by lecturers.
Mr. Iyayi is believed to be travelling to Kano for Wednesday’s National Executive Committee meeting where a vote is likely to be taken on whether the ongoing strike should be called off.
One of the pilot cars in the governor’s convoy reportedly rammed into the vehicle in which Mr. Iyayi and other activists were travelling, killing him instantly, witnesses said.
But the Special Adviser to the Governor, Jacob Edi, said it was untrue that it was the governor’s pilot vehicle that hit Mr. Iyayi’s car.
“There was a collision on a narrow road and it is too early to say who rammed into who,” Mr. Edi told PREMIUM TIMES.  ”The  ASUU car was dodging a trailer and an accident occurred. It is not fair to politicise this incident.”
Mr. Edi said as soon as the accident happened, the governor directed that the ambulance in the convoy be used to convey the victims to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
Some of the victims, he said, were also taken to the Government House Clinic.
The Kogi governor’s spokesperson said the governor later visited the hospitals to sympathize with the victims of the accident.
He dismissed suggestions that the accident happened because of overspeeding by his boss’ convoy, saying  Mr. Wada’s convoy travels at 80 km per hour.
This is the second time Mr. Wada’s convoy would be involved in deadly accident in less than a year.
On December 28, 2012, the governor’s motorcade was involved in a crash that the auto crash that broke Mr. Wada’s leg, killed his security aide and injured two other state officials.

Omotola's hubby gives great advise on how to make a marriage work

When asked what the secret to his 17 year marriage to actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde is, Captain Matthew Ekeinde said something very profound...things a lot of men need to read. Find it below...
One thing that has been working for us as a couple is that I always encourage her to be who she wants to be. I give her full support always.
Lots of married women that are caught cheating on their husbands could be traced to the fact that some of their husbands don’t allow them explore their talents. I encourage my wife and kids to be what they want to be.
Most of the influential men and women we have in this world didn’t even go to school. So it is all about exploiting your talents.
Some women love acting but their husbands won’t let them believing that other men would touch or exploit them sexually. It is all about discipline. Those that want to cheat will cheat; it is all about self control.
